Meet Maine artist Susan Doucette

Thank you for taking the time to stop by.  My name is Susan Doucette, a native of the beautiful state of Maine. I grew up in the historic coastal ship building village of South Freeport, enjoying the outdoors all my life. I presently reside in Bowdoinham on Merrymeeting Bay.

Throughout my life I have been surrounded by art, creativity and nature. My father, Robert M. Doucette was an award-winning wildlife artist and worked with multiple mediums. My mother Terisa’s great attention to detail as an antique art conservator with her gentle skill and patience meticulously preserved art of the past. The influence is undeniable.

Learning the art of wood carving from my father became a passion for me. I started carving birds in my early twenties and was hooked. My favorite birds to bring to life are delicate songbirds, along with graceful loons and colorful puffins. In the earliest days my pieces were sold at Jordan Pond Gift Shop in Acadia National Park. My carvings are lovingly created to bring the beauty of nature into your home.

Approximately ten years ago, I started working with precious metal clay. I began designing and creating jewelry from recycled fine silver, sterling silver, copper, and bronze. I design each piece as the spirit moves me. I offer jewelry created with loving intention in the spirit of nature enhancing the wearers energies.

I am honored to offer my carvings and jewelry for sale directly from my studio, Mystic Loon. Everything is created by hand and made to reflect aspects of nature that bring beauty and joy to my life. My hope is you will find a piece that you connect with. Something to express yourself and connection with the beauty that is the great State of Maine.

Custom orders are welcomed; please feel free to reach out.

                                           With Love,

                                          Sue
